Please note: The video quality is not optimal. This recording is taken directly from the live-stream broadcast, and we appreciate your understanding. Moderator: Dr. Krister Schönström, Department of Linguistics, Stockholm University Speakers & Topics: Dr. Fernanda de Araujo Machado University of São Paulo “Brazilian Sign Language Poetry Anthology: A Multilingual Perspective” Fernanda introduces a groundbreaking anthology featuring poetry in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and other sign languages. She discusses multilingualism, Deaf culture, and the evolving landscape of sign language literature, connecting poetics, translation studies, and accessibility. Dr. Ben Bahan Gallaudet University “Visual Vernacular as Global Literary Art” Ben explores the expressive power of gesture-only storytelling and its development into Visual Vernacular (VV). He highlights its universal artistic appeal and argues for VV as a global literary form with the ability to convey complex narratives visually. Dr. Pia Simper-Allen Stockholm University “Depicting Verbs in All Types of Sign Language Texts” Pia focuses on depicting signs—productive, iconic signs that visually represent actions and events. She demonstrates how depicting verbs appear across sign languages and artistic texts, revealing both universal tendencies and cultural variations. All rights reserved to Riksteatern Crea
