At Computex 2025 in Taipei, Nexcom’s industrial automation division brought a compact collaborative cell to illustrate how its current robot-control stack handles real-world safety tasks. The demo pairs a six-axis arm nicknamed “Duke” with a floor-level service cart managed by engineer Paul, highlighting live safe-motion overrides, dynamic speed and position monitoring, and operator hand-off without a cage. https://www.nexcobot.com/en/product/r... All control logic runs on the General Robot Controller (GRC) tucked beneath the cart: a Jetson AGX Orin-based edge computer that hosts a dual-master EtherCAT stack for deterministic motion and AI inference in one box. Joint modules on each axis integrate servo drive, resolver feedback, and brake release so the arm can be expanded or serviced modularly without rewiring, while the secondary EtherCAT network handles I/O, tool-centre-point sensors and conveyor synchronization in plant-wide layout. A dedicated functional-safety board branded DinoSafe supervises the cell with FSoE traffic across the same fieldbus, meeting SIL3, HFT = 1, Category 3 performance and providing configurable safe-zone envelopes that escalate from speed-reduction to STO when human presence breaches digital light curtains or 3-D lidar fields. The operator can reinstate motion via a single acknowledgement button, enabling quick recovery without power-cycling. Nexcom positions the platform for semiconductor back-end, flexible-electronics, and autonomous material-handling lines by shipping ROS 2 APIs, OPC UA telemetry hooks, and a web-based teach pendant that adapts Cartesian, SCARA, delta, wafer, six-axis, and seven-axis kinematics on the same firmware.
