Trooper Escamilla Police Report (with evidence photos): https://1drv.ms/b/c/1f43f58f1f4b4ab7/... On 5-13-24 at approximately 2:28 pm, I, Trooper A. Escamilla, was patrolling in the area of Interstate 40 East near the 171 mile marker. I observed a black Chevrolet Malibu bearing Texas LPN (TXZ4003) traveling in the number 2 lane. I observed that vehicle make a lane change from the number 2 lane to the number 1 lane. As the driver of the vehicle was in her lane change, she used her turn signal and was not within the 100 feet of which she should have used her lane change. I made contact with the driver who was identified as Shayla Cooper. I advised Cooper of who I was, the agency I represented, and the reason for the stop. While making contact with Cooper, I smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. I asked Cooper where she was coming from and she advised that she was coming from Oklahoma City and was traveling to Georgia. When asked, Cooper stated that the vehicle she was traveling in was a rental vehicle. I asked Cooper to see the rental vehicle agreement in which she provided. In the rental agreement, it showed that she rented the vehicle on 5-13 24 at 8:22 am, and it was a one way rental to College Park Georgia and was to be returned on 5-14-24 at 8:30 am. I asked Cooper what the purpose of her travel was, and she stated that she was going to pick up her 15 year old daughter. Cooper stated that she planned on flying back to Oklahoma City. I asked Cooper why she was going to fly back instead of drive back and she stated that her 15 year old daughter was afraid of flying. I then asked Cooper to exit the vehicle. I spoke to Cooper and asked how much marijuana she was traveling with, and she responded that she was not traveling with marijuana. Cooper then stated that she smokes and alluded that she might have some in her bag. I placed her in the rear of my vehicle and conducted a vehicle search. While searching in the trunk of the vehicle, I located a large amount of vacuum sealed bags containing marijuana. I then placed Cooper under arrest. Cooper was read her Miranda rights but refused to speak about this incident. I made contact with Phillips Wrecker who responded to the scene to drive the vehicle in to Lonoke County Sheriff's Office. While at LCSO, a total of 115 packages were located inside the trunk of the vehicle. I made contact with 17th Judicial Drug Task Force Officer who responded to LCSO. All evidence was transferred over into her possession. Cooper was arrested and charged accordingly. We've implemented Channel Memberships (you do not have to be a member to watch the videos)!
