Your run will start at the fountains that grace the entrance to Sforza Castle, the massive 15th century structure that was, at one time, one of the largest citadels in all of Europe. You'll explore the grounds before your run then takes you into Parco Sempione ("Simplon Park") that rests adjacent to the gardens of the Castle on 3 million square meters of lush green and verdant land. You'll also encounter the iconic Arch of Peace, another of the greater landmarks for which this city is known; afterwards, you will head over to the Piazza del Duomo, where stands the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, Duomo di Milano, with its ornate spires stretching ever-skyward. A truly impressive sight...and one that took almost six centuries to complete! Finally, you'll experience a run through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the oldest active shopping mall in Italy, and one of the first indoor malls ever constructed. It was all-but-destroyed by allied bombing in 1943, but thankfully, it was restored to its full glory in the decades that followed. You will marvel at the ornate decorations...not to mention the impressive list of high-end merchants who've set up shop in this historic marketplace.
