Speaker: Toshihide Mochizuki, Division Senior Manager of the Research and Development Division Title: Overview of JR East’s Innovation Initiatives Abstract: East Japan Railway Company (JR East), one of the world's largest railway operators, is dedicated to the continuous advancement of cutting-edge technologies and high-quality services. With the aim of creating new value across four strategic domains—Safety & Security, Service & Marketing, Operations & Maintenance, and Energy & Environment—JR East is committed to driving technological innovation that anticipates future societal needs. In particular, the declining working-age population, energy and environmental challenges, and the increasing severity of natural disasters have emerged as critical management issues that must be addressed in Japan. This webinar will provide an overview of the company’s initiatives and highlight its recent technological developments. Bio: Mr. Toshihide Mochizuki serves as the Division Senior Manager of the Research and Development Division within the Innovation Strategy Headquarters at JR East. In his capacity as the division’s chief executive, he oversees a team of more than 20 engineers and leads the company’s strategic efforts in technology management, with a strong emphasis on innovation, operational excellence, and long-term value creation. In addition to his current leadership role, Mr. Mochizuki has accumulated extensive experience through his involvement in international standardization activities at the Railway Technical Research Institute, railway rolling stock manufacturing projects at Japan Transport Engineering Company, and the formulation of capital investment strategies at JR East.
