FOR SALE... A vintage Peterson 400 Strobe Tuner in excellent working condition. Like the other famous strobe tuner from this era, the Conn Strobotuner ST series, this Peterson 400 series tuner works via the stroboscopic "wagon wheel" effect. If you've ever seen a car wheel look like it was going backwards when it obviously is going forward, you've seen the wagon wheel effect. That's how this incredible tuner works. Originally, strobe tuners were designed for vocal training, so one could see how in tune they were singing and learn to adjust accordingly. Guitar techs quickly caught on that it was much more precise to intonate electric guitars using a strobe tuner than by doing it by ear. These tuners don't hear fret buzz or the weird overtones that make it difficult to intonate by ear. Now here's the cool thing. todays digital tuners are great for tuning open notes, but many have trouble hearing a guitar's harmonic notes, which is what you use when setting a guitar's intonations. This is due to their 1/1000 semitone accuracy. Most vintage strobe tuners have a much less flakey accuracy of 1/100 of a semitone. This makes them more human-friendly when intonating most guitars. It is the perfect blend of accuracy and visual interface for doing guitar set-ups. Unfortunately the old tech doesn't allow them to be automatic, hence, you must turn the knob manually to what note you want. It's no big deal and in fact, I personally like it that way as it lets you think about the string you're working on more. This is a PERFECT working example that is for sale. I would keep it, but I'm so used to the Conn I've had since 1977, I have become inflexible in my old age. PS, I forgot to mention the handle is missing one of it's covers and screw, so the previous owner installed a large head screw which works fine.
