Types of Decimal No|| lec # 2 |IGCSE/ O LEVEL Mathematics||MUHAMMAD UMAR ZAHEER New IGCSE Mathematics group starting Now ! 📚 In this session, we’ll kick off with an introduction to the Decimal Numbers — learn about terminating decimals etc in a simple and clear way. Perfect for students starting their IGCSE Math journey! ✨ Course Recorded : @TheDigitalCoaching Teacher Name : Muhammad Umar Zaheer Course Name: Igcse / O Level Math (0580/4024) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🎥 Topic: Types of Decimal Numbers Hello everyone! In this video, we’re going to learn about the types of decimal numbers. Decimals are numbers that have a whole number part and a fractional part, separated by a decimal point. For example, in the number 3.75, the “3” is the whole number part, and “75” is the fractional part. Now, decimal numbers can be classified into three main types based on the digits after the decimal point: 1. Terminating Decimals A terminating decimal is a decimal number that comes to an end — it has a finite number of digits after the decimal point. ✅ Examples: 0.5 2.75 6.123 These decimals stop after a few digits. For example, 2.75 has just two digits after the decimal point, and then it stops — it doesn’t go on forever. 💡 How do we get them? Terminating decimals are usually obtained when a fraction has a denominator that is a factor of 10, such as 2, 4, 5, 8, or 10. Example: 3 4 = 0.75 4 3 =0.75 2. Non-Terminating Repeating Decimals (Also called Recurring Decimals) These decimals go on forever, but they follow a repeating pattern. One or more digits keep repeating in a regular cycle. 💡 Fun Fact: These decimals are also rational numbers, because they can be expressed as fractions. 3. Non-Terminating Non-Repeating Decimals These decimals never end and also never repeat — they go on forever without any predictable pattern. 🧠 Summary: Type Ends? Repeats? Example Type of Number Terminating Decimal ✅ Yes ❌ No 0.75 Rational Non-Terminating Repeating ❌ No ✅ Yes 0.6̅ Rational Non-Terminating Non-Repeating ❌ No ❌ No π, √2 Irrational 📌 Final Tip: If a decimal ends or repeats, it is a rational number. If it neither ends nor repeats, it is irrational.🎥 Topic: Types of Decimal Number Now, decimal numbers can be classified into three main types based on the digits after the decimal point: 1. Terminating Decimals A terminating decimal is a decimal number that comes to an end — it has a finite number of digits after the decimal point. ✅ Examples: 0.5 You’ll often see them written with a bar over the repeating digits, like: 0.3̅ or 1.27̅ 💡 Fun Fact: These decimals are also rational numbers, because they can be expressed as fractions. 3. Non-Terminating Non-Repeating Decimals ✨ They are useful in advanced mathematics and appear in many real-world applications like geometry, physics, and engineering. 🧠 Summary: Type Ends? Repeats?
