There's no magic diet out there that can bypass the fact that you need to be in a negative energy balance and force your body to lose weight / fat. And that deficit can be created through either eating less food or adding more exercise. Marketing wants you to believe that a Ketogenic diet has some kind of special fat burning elements that will allow you to burn fat and eat as much as you want. That's simply not the case. And what most people do when they hear that is think that they can anything they want so they double down on fats from oils, meats, butter and other high calorie density sources. Even though it's harder to overeat if eliminate a whole food group (carbohydrates) those calories from fat and protein will add up quickly if not controlled. We know that 1 gram of fat has more than double calories than a gram of carbohydrates and it's quite easy to overeat especially if you're not tracking. So if you're not losing weight on keto it's not that the diet doesn't work or that you have some special metabolism it's that you're eating too many calories. And the easiest way to become aware of this is to use tools like MyFitnessPal (https://myfitnesspal.com) to record your intake. Once you figure out the intake then you just need to keep reducing food to get into a caloric deficit. I know there's a lot of hype around keto and specific foods such as coconut oil or putting butter in your coffee making people overeat on calories. Realistically how can an 600 kcal cup of coffee help you lose weight? That's 600 kcal of real food you can eat that day. Let's say your intake on a keto diet is 1800 kcal, if you drink 600 first thing in the day that leaves just 1200 for the rest of the day. That's not a lot of food, and this is where people fail to adhere to the caloric deficit. Keep that in mind, track your calories. Don't buy into the hype.
