Botox is a safe and effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. It is used in other areas of medicine and has proven to be safe and effective with only minimal side effects. Neurologists use it for migraine headaches, pediatricians use it for kids with muscle spacticity, psychiatrists even use it now to treat depression. The biggest risks of botox are actually pretty minimal and include injection site redness which usually resolves in 5 minutes, occasional bruising, and rarely headaches (although oddly enuf botox is a treatement for headaches). Flu like symptoms have been reported and are very rare, (Less than 1%). The biggest concern however is facial drop, asymmetry and a heavy brow. Note however, this occurs almost exclusively when you receive a non-expert injector who does not know the intricacies of anatomy and how that varies among different patients. It also occurs when the placement and units of botox are incorrect or is the botox is not suspended properly. Luckily, these changes are reversible and usually self correct after only 4-6 weeks even though the effects of botox last 3-4 months. This is why you should not trust your face to someone who is not experienced. Don't use a groupon, do go to some shady medispa and only trust your botox treatment to an expert injector. Upon completing my residency, I joined the full-time faculty at UCLA as a Clinical Instructor and Professor in Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. I then went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Dermatologic Surgery at UC Davis and Cosmetic Dermatology at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Northern California with world-renowned expert, Dr. Suzanne Kilmer. After fellowship, I was appointed the Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California where I remained active in clinical trials and have been on the forefront of the latest advances in aesthetics and dermatology. As an Orange County native, I love the SoCal community and currently enjoy being a Dermatologist in Newport Beach, CA. My areas of expertise include cosmetic dermatology with a focus on injectable neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin), as well as dermal fillers (Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Sculptra, Restylane, Belotero, and Radiesse). In addition, I travel nationally and internationally where I teach other physicians injection techniques and about the latest advances in dermatology. I am highly-trained in the use of lasers and energy-based devices to treat all aspects of photoaging, including fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, brown spots and facial vessels. I offer a comprehensive approach to body contouring with the use of minimally-invasive procedures.
