This is a venom extraction of a highly venomous Ashes spitting cobra (Naja Ashei) They produce a huge amount of venom. Being a spitting cobra milking them can be frustrating as they tend to spit at you wasting their venom. We know that milking can be done by one person. We have chosen to have a minimum of 3 people in the milking team, They each have their own job to do, as well see to keep a eye on each others safety as well as that of the snakes. Safety is very important that is why we chose to do this process this way. From a milking we did awhile ago We milked 4 of our adult Ashes spitting cobra. We got a incredible amount of venom from them but one specimen out did the rest! 20.678 ml of venom in total, of which 10.3 ml was from a single specimen. Dry weight of 6.737 grams. 3.356 grams from just one specimen. Average of the other three snakes was 1.127 grams each. This is a huge amount of venom and bit the current records help by Gaboon vipers. This venom will eventually be used for research and most importantly us to make much needed antivenom. In Kenya we loss over 1000 people to snakebite each year.
