“Desert Woman” Live Documentary

Documented on 2nd May 2024, Helsinki. Inspired by the life of the Taiwanese writer Sānmáo (1943-1991), this performance deals with contemporary challenges faced by artists and critically reflects on their context global politics, employing Audiovisual Media, specifically through methods of textual sonification. It explores an innovative audio-visual format which engages artistically into socio-political spheres, all while conveying a particular feminist per- perspective and possible implications with sound arts. It explores the dynamic role of performativity and activism between political and historical landscapes, presenting an innovative A/V format that merges literature and soundscape design. By introduction of textual sonification as a method, it underscores a narrative structure essential for the preservation of social and cultural heritage at the intersection of literature and sound.
