My interest in ball bearings is a result of a repair I had to make to my Maytag Neptune washer. After a period of 15 years, the drum bearings had begun to wear out causing the washer to sound like a jet aircraft taking off in flight during the high-speed spin cycle. After reading appliance message boards and viewing other Youtube video's, the bearing replacement seemed pretty straight forward. I went ahead and ordered a set of bearings online, from an outfit claiming that they offered original Maytag bearings...more about this later. After receiving the bearings, I went ahead and replaced them out. Everything seem to work fine for a while, then at around six months the bearings began to make the same sound again indicating bearing failure. Upon further research, I discovered a massive ball bearing counterfeit industry affecting the entire world. It accounts for billions of dollars in lost sales and productivity as a result of sub-standard and counterfeit bearings being sold as original. Most of the counterfeiting originates out of China which uses cheap unbranded bearings that they rebrand to look authentic - including the packaging. At times, the forgeries are so good that it takes an expert to determine if they are counterfeit or not. Unfortunately, counterfeit bearings account for billions of dollars in lost productivity due to pre-mature failure since they are not built to the same engineering standards as brands like SKF, FAG, Timken, Koyo, NSK and NTN etc. In this video I'm demonstrating what to look for when deciding on purchasing a set of bearings to replace in your Maytag Neptune washing machine. Don't be fooled by claims of OEM bearing replacement or authentic Whirlpool or Maytag bearings. For this model, Whirlpool does not provide an OEM bearing set for these machines unless you purchase the complete outer-drum assembly for almost $500. At that price you might as well buy a complete new washing machine. Secondly, when choosing a bearing, a higher price does not always indicate a better bearing. Always use an authorized name brand bearing distributor or buy directly from the bearing manufacture to ensure you're not getting fakes or forgeries. I chose to buy my bearings from a small company in Germany, CQ GmbH. They produce their own bearings line which are of exceptional quality. Even after paying the shipping and the US Dollar/Euro conversion, the value was much better than purchasing other brands domestically. They have 100% positive feedback score with sales of over 3,300 so that tells you something. Germany produces some of the best machined components in the world and it's unlikely they would be passing on cheap bearings made in China or otherwise. The quality of these new bearings were fantastic with almost no play in the inner races. I made the repair after making this video, using the new bearings I purchased from Germany, and the spin cycle now is virtually silent. It's even better than it was when the washing machine was new. Almost whisper silent. It's amazing. If interested, the bearings can be purchased directly from the CQ GmbH eBay store front. In fact they have a kit you can purchase that includes both bearings which you can purchase from their ebay storefront: https://goo.gl/FSy48d The kit includes one each of the following bearings: SS 6206 ZZ Stainless Steel with metal shields rear drum bearing SS 6207 2RS Stainless Steel with rubber shields front drum bearing It took about a week to receive the bearings, standard postal shipping, and I've been extremely happy with the purchase. I am not affiliated with this company what-so-ever, other than purchasing a set of bearings from them. I have never had any contact with the company directly or indirectly and earn no monetary compensation as a result of making this recommendation. However, if you want to purchase your bearings locally or domestically, search for these bearings by finding an authorized SFK, FAG, Timkin etc. distributor and purchasing them that way so you know you are getting authentic and quality parts. However, expect to spend anywhere from around $40-$100 per bearing for stainless steel bearings. Carbon steel bearings are way less expensive, but they will eventually rust and not last as long. Remember, you only want to make this repair once. Thanks
