The Camino Primitivo, or literally the first road, is a great opportunity to discover the origin of the pilgrimage. Starting from the cathedral of Oviedo, you walk through Asturias to the fortified city of Lugo in Galicia. From Lugo, you walk to the village of Melide, where the route joins with the Camino Francés for the last 55 km to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The route crosses 250 km through sparsely populated mountain areas, with exceptional nature and mainly through paths and unpaved roads, which certainly contributes to the peace and scenic beauty. Along the way, you'll also encounter a lot of historical heritage, especially in the three monumental cities of Oviedo, Lugo, and of course Santiago de Compostela itself.
