In this video, I am testing two different types of contact mics with intent towards sound design applications. The first is a piezo-based Cortado MkIII from Zeppelin Design Labs and the second is the seismic-based Geofón from LOM. The LOM has a frequency response range of 10-1000Hz, while the Cortado's is 23-40k. The Cortado's included pre-amp also has a low cut filter at 150Hz that can be enabled. I used a DJI Mic 2 connected wirelessly to my Osmo Pocket 3 for my commentary, and the mic had connectivity and other sound issues multiple times. (And I did not have the option to record a backup track internally on the mic enabled, unfortunately.) So there are a few places where my commentary audio is very much not good. I apologize. I applied DaVinci Resolve's Voice Isolation to the DJI Mic commentary track to reduce the background noise it was picking up with all the wind. For the most part, the mic did not directly clip in the wind thanks to the fur windscreen, but it does get a bit rough in a couple places. When I am not commenting, I have completely muted the DJI Mic in post so as not to interfere with the audio captured by the contact mic being demonstrated. I did not do any post processing on the contact mics, other than gain adjustments. The recordings were made simultaneously on a Sound Devices Scorpio as 32-bit float ISOs with trims set to allow for a lot of headroom. In this video, I changed the gain multiple times for each demonstration, as unity gain in post was mostly too quiet to hear in a YouTube video, while at other times the audio was extremely loud (but did not clip in the Scorpio because I had allowed for a lot of headroom). I have indicated the gain applied in post throughout the video. This video is not sponsored. I purchased these mics with my own money. I've had the LOM for around two years, while I only just purchased the Cortados. The mics are fairly similar in price -- the LOM is about 30 US dollars more expensive than one of the Cortados. The main issue with purchasing a LOM is they are nearly always sold out and you need to get on the mailing list for notice when new stock is added. And then you need to be quick about it, as each new batch typically sells out in a matter of minutes. 00:00 Intro 07:16 Gas Meter - LOM Geofón 07:43 Gas Meter - Cortado - No Low Cut 08:12 Gas Meter - Cortado - Low Cut 08:40 Park Swing - LOM Geofón 10:58 Park Swing - Cortado - No Low Cut 13:16 Park Swing - Cortado - Low Cut 15:34 Water Pump - LOM Geofón 17:42 Water Pump - Cortado - No Low Cut 19:50 Water Pump - Corado - Low Cut 21:57 Creaky Gate - LOM Geofón 24:57 Creaky Gate - Cortado - No Low Cut 27:57 Creaky Gate - Cortado - Low Cut 30:57 Outro
