Abut the song: "Written at a time when quite a few of my friends and I were battling heavy depression, I was inspired to create this lamentation. In some parts of the song, I ask the Lord to help my friends and me as we go through really dark times. In most of the song, I speak about the thoughts and feelings I experienced while battling depression. Sometimes, I found myself begging the Lord to lift me out from the pit or as King David described, the mud and mire. When I wrote the lyrics to this song, I was battling the darkness and feeling like I was drowning. Now looking back, I can say I've truly come to a place where the Lord has lifted me out and placed my feet on solid rock. It wasn't a quick process. Lots of prayer, therapy, hardships, patience, love from family, and love from friends took place between the time I wrote it and now, but the ending of the song feels truer than ever before. In the midst of "The Mud and Mire", it may feel like there's no hope. It may feel like there's no way out of the darkness, but God can take your pain and change things for the better. He can lift you up and spark a light inside you which shines beyond any darkness. He says to cast your cares on Him for He cares for you. Lay your burdens at His feet. Drink from the living water. These were things I knew and tried to do; though in my case, I didn't see results right away. Time heals. Therapy can help you navigate through the shadows of this life. But love, most of all, is the chain breaker. Just know, Jesus loves you to death. He even demonstrated this love through his own death on a cross. I'm not normally this preachy, but tonight I felt I needed to share my journey. It's been a long one for sure. I don't want to say I'm magically fixed and living happily ever after. I know there may be times in the future where I may fall into the pit again. But if God could help me through it before, He can do it again, and I believe He can do it for you as well. Seek Him. Find Him. Knock and the door will be opened. As cryptic as it sounds, it's truth. Seek truth. Find truth. Knock and the door to truth will be opened.
