Framing the problem of leakage in the UK context (Ian Pemberton, Principal Engineer at Ofwat) The session will begin with a brief history of leakage in England and Wales which will look at the regulatory approach to leakage, leakage levels for the past 30 years and progress against current targets. Creating a leakage reporting mechanism for the next 25 years (Ian Pemberton, Principal Engineer at Ofwat) In February 2025 Ian announced that he was leading a project to review leakage reporting. This project seeks to review the convergent methodology published in 2018 (which in turn was a consolidation of Managing Leakage published over 30 years ago), but also it was timely given Ofwat's policy at PR24 to fund companies to install 10.4M smart meters in AMP8. The project will also consider international practice and suggest how we can create the best possible reporting mechanism fit for the next 25 years. Examples of leakage technologies the Ofwat Innovation Fund has supported so far (Hannah Muirhead, Senior Associate Innovation at Ofwat Designer Liner Dark Fibre NLRTC
