Lawrence Wu's Robot Detects and Points at Fire

My George School Robotics student, Lawrence Wu, is in the process of designing and programming his Robodyssey Mouse robot to put out a fire. Lawrence's robot uses the BX-24 microcontroller from NetMedia and an infrared detector and a turret to find the fire, point to the fire, move toward the fire, and stop just in front of the fire. This task is important for successful completion in the upcoming International Robot Firefighting Competition in Hartford, CT, on April 9-10, 2011. During this event Lawrence's team's robot will compete against other robots around the world to autonomously locate and extinguish a small fire in a model home. The robot performs this and many other tasks without the assistance of its human creators.
