I picked up this knife from Tractor Supply on clearance the other day. It is a Shrade Old Timer Bowie Knife. It has a huge blade and a pretty decent sheath. Here are my first impressions out of the package. This is one big knife measuring about 14 1/2 inches overall from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle. The blade length itself is about 9 3/4 inches long. Did I say this is one big knife!!! It has a full tang and a very thick blade. It normally sells for $20 but I waited for it to go on clearance and got mine for only half that price from Tractor Supply. I love big knives and I wanted to add this one to my collection. The one thing I do not like out of the package is the plastic handle. It feels cheap and is not very comfortable. Shrade usually makes some pretty decent stuff for budget users. But the handle on this thing needs to go. I think I will one day make a real wood handle for it with brass screws. The blade is very sharp out of the package which is quite rare anymore these days. I will be trying this out in the woods to see how well it holds its edge though in the coming weeks and months. The sheath looks to be pretty decent though because it has real metal rivets on the inside edge of the stitching to prevent the knife from cutting through and destroying the sheath. This is a good thing which you just do not see these days. I compared this knife to one of my all time favorites which is also from TSC. I bought the other knife for about $10, which is their normal price. It has no name but is has a full tang, real wood handle, polished metal and a saw back blade. Side by side the Shrade is not much larger at all. The blade is a bit longer but overall the two are nearly the same length. Time will tell which one will win out over the other here at my off grid property. One day I will do a follow up video on this knife but I wanted to give you my first impressions for now.
