There is enough self-doubt in all of us that we all wonder whether we are genuine Ben Stein - How to Ruin Your Life; Love Life; and Financial Life. If you want to be distant from God, have a broken heart, family, mind, do these two things: Don't make the effort to know the truth; reject the truth when you discover what it is. Have there been moments in your life when you just want to give up. In your struggles, the truth does not seem sufficient at all. Your anxieties do not go away, your life situation has not changed and your desperation grows day by day. Your prayers seem to be met with silence. The Thessalonians had reason to believe Christ had already returned Tacitus described AD 51 as an “ominous” year filled with earthquakes. The man of lawlessness seemed to be alive. For Paul the end times were a source of encouragement. There will be greater opposition and persecution, but Christians do not need to live in fear! Even knowing the details, wouldn’t stop them. 2 Thessalonians 2:1–5, 13–17 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. 5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. 16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. No matter how bad things become in the world, Christians are expected to be different! The process of standing firm in the midst of a troubled world begins with the love of God for mankind. We have a hard time believing that God could love us. There is a strange secret of universal evil. What is it that makes it so difficult to correct the conditions that destroy it? Drug trafficking, alcoholism, zero progress in curing human wickedness? Same problems. Our root problem is not a failure to grasp the timing of the second coming. The root problem is why they were sucked into this deception- the tendency to find pleasure in unrighteousness. When you come to Christ your human spirit is invaded by the Holy Spirit You can put an end to your bad habits. You are limited only as you choose to be; the power of God is equal to it if you decide to stop. You will have the strength to keep on fighting until the battle is won. Like a piano in the master’s hand will produce beautiful sound, It is only when Christ is glorified in us that we will experience life as it was meant to be and experience joy like never before.
