This walk winds around the medieval streets, the peaceful millpond, and the shadow of one of Britain’s greatest fortresses. With calm waters, ancient walls, and cosy Welsh charm at every turn, Pembroke is a place where the past sits comfortably alongside everyday life. 🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore Dominating the town is Pembroke Castle, a colossal Norman stronghold with towers, tunnels, and battlements that seem almost too vast for such a modest community. Built in the 11th century and birthplace of Henry VII, it’s a fortress that shaped the Tudor dynasty and, in many ways, British history itself. Its enormous limestone walls still look undefeatable, rising proudly above the millpond like a scene from a medieval tapestry. The walk around the millpond is one of Pembroke’s most tranquil delights. The water mirrors the castle perfectly on a still day, creating one of Wales’ most photogenic views. Swans drift, ducks chatter, and the reflections ripple beneath arched bridges and ancient trees. It’s a peaceful counterpoint to the castle’s sheer weight and presence.
