This is my clawhammer/clawgrass version of Ghost Riders. Please check out my bluegrass version also. “Ghost Riders In The Sky” has been called by the Western Writers of America “the greatest western/cowboy song of all time.” Written by songwriter/actor Stan Jones in 1948, the song tells the story of a cowboy who has a vision of red-eyed, steel-hooved cattle thundering across the sky, being chased by the spirits of doomed cowboys. One warns him that if he does not change his ways, he will be destined to join them, forever "trying to catch the Devil's herd across these endless skies." Hundreds of performers have recorded the song, from Vaughn Monroe to Johnny Cash, Frankie Lane, Marty Robbins, and Bing Crosby. I’m playing it on a Deering Clawgrass 2 with backup generated by Band-In-A-Box.
