Four in a Row : A different way of the Eastern style

Marobud member Sigtryggr and his message: "After almost 12 years in the Viking Age reenactment, people know me as a good source of knowledge, but, on the other hand, they accuse me from not participating in modern battles. This video is my message to those people. In the video, you can see me personally fighting four member of the Czech prominent group Goryničové - the group that participates many European Viking Age festivals and battles (http://gorynicove.cz/). Some of them are very well trained and I know them for more than 5 years. As you can notice, we are fighting Eastern style and even limbs count as targets. Even though guys from Goryničové are trained, some of them are using protective elemets - gloves and bracers - that make them a bit slower and less precise. Moreover, we have no evidence for them in the period. I personally train 2 times per week for more than 8 years; the training includes wrestling and intensive one-handed and two-handed weapons work. Limb protectors are not used for at least 2 years. Then the combat becomes more realistic and battles a bit boring and unsatisfying. The skill and routine matters, as does good and fitting weaponry. The shield in the video weights around 2 kg; such a shield allows you an uncredible manoeuvrability and a work from the distance. The sword is a replica of Petersen type W sword and it weights more than 1,5 kg. It is needed to note that the sword works perfectly if held in handshake grip and if it is not used for blocking. All the equipment was kindly provided by Goryničové group. The other point of this video is to show that even though we cannot compare this type of duels with the real one with sharp weapons, a person can have a lot of advantages, if she or he gets used to the gear. It is also obvious that every oponents requires a special combination, since there is no universal system of Viking Age sword fight."
