I owe you an apology. In my last video discussing my new Led Zeppelin studio box set, I somehow failed to mention Physical Graffiti. That omission was not philosophical, conspiratorial, or intentional. It was just ridiculous. Consider this my formal mea culpa. Once that record was set straight, the conversation took a much bigger turn. This video explores one of the great and endlessly fascinating debates in rock history: who was the greater guitar player, Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix? I make the case that greatness is more than speed, flash, or technical precision. It includes composition, arrangement, production, songwriting, musical vision, business acumen, longevity, and cultural impact. When viewed through that wider and more honest lens, Jimmy Page stands apart. As the architect of Led Zeppelin, Page wasn’t just a guitarist. He was a builder of worlds, a curator of sound, and a steward of a band that was never diluted, mismanaged, or exploited. This isn’t a knock on Hendrix, whose brilliance was undeniable and incandescent. It’s an argument about legacy, scope, and sustained creative authority. Sometimes the greater artist isn’t the loudest or fastest. Sometimes he’s the one who knew exactly where to steer the ship, and when to let it burn just enough.
