This lift is a very nice Kone MonoGoods lift located at the Derbion centre in Derby. The lift has very nice motor and brake clunk sounds, standard Kone voice and KSS470 fixtures. This lift serves floors -1, and 3 - 8, however all floors are locked off except -1 and 3. I had just ridden and filmed the Otis Gen2 lift from level 3 (restaurants, bowling and adventure golf level) to level 4 (cinema entrance level) and I noticed this Kone lift opposite. I walked into the lift, expecting that it was another lift that connected levels 3 and 4 but I was mistaken! After trying all buttons in the lift, I soon realised that only -1 and 3 were unlocked. I went down to -1 and discovered that it was just a service area! I wonder why that floor is unlocked when it is clearly a staff level too? This lift is quite confusing! It cannot be used by people to travel from the restaurants up to the cinema as level 4 is locked. However, I believe you can call it on level 4 to travel back down to 3 if you wish. Strangely you do not need to use a code to travel to service area -1 but do need a code for all other levels. My best guess is that all of the locked off levels above 4 are levels where the cinema screens are. These are probably locked off so that people cannot get in on level 3 and travel up to the cinema screen levels without first paying on level 4. The cinema Otis Gen2 lift also has loads of locked off levels above 4 so I am guessing these travel up to cinema screens too. I predict that if anyone going up to the cinema screens needs to use the lift, staff will input the code, thus making sure that anyone going up there has paid first on level 4. If you are up on those levels already though, it may be possible to call the lift to go back down to the exit on level 3. The reason I am guessing level -1 is unlocked is because it is not part of the cinema. Maybe only cinema staff know the code and staff who do not work at the cinema need to use -1 so it has been kept unlocked for them. Those are my guesses anyway! What do you think? Even though this is basically a staff lift, I decided to film it anyway as it is really nice but I did not get out at the service floor. I remained in the lift and just got in and out on public level 3.
