She got the degree cum laude in Medical Biotechnology in 2008 and the Medical Specialization in Microbiology and Virology cum laude in 2014. She also got the PhD in Microbiology and Immunology in 2020. She has a large experience in studies aimed at unravelling the role of viral genetic variability on viral pathogenicity and at determining the role of diagnostic viral markers in disease staging and in assessing the response to antiviral treatment, with a special focus on viral hepatitis. She is author of more than 60 full scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented more than 200 research abstracts at numerous National and International Conferences in the last 10 years. Webinar: Hepatitis E: The new challenges of a peculiar viral hepatitis Webinar Abstract: HEV, with over 3 million clinical cases, 70,000 deaths, and 3,000 stillbirths, mostly in Asia and Africa, causing 3.3 percent of all deaths from viral hepatitis worldwide. HEV infection mostly affects persons living in resource-limited settings with poor access to clean water and sanitation and can be particularly severe in pregnant women and neonates. In particular, HEV is a significant contributor to global maternal mortality, with reported case-fatality rates of 20–30%. In high-income countries, HEV represents a growing concern particularly in immunocompromised individuals and in patients with chronic liver disease, that are at high risk for the severe disease after HEV infection.
