Tain Derailment Causes Major Disruption | Paddington 24/7 | S1 E7 | Our Stories

Paddington is a station that never sleeps. As the daily crowds of commuters start to thin, a small army of workers spring into action.There is good reason why passengers are advised not to flush the onboard toilets while the trains are in the station - a lot of trains don't have sealed tanks so any waste which is flushed ends up on the tracks. Overnight, a team from Sisk UK are tasked with cleaning the mats which have been laid down to protect the tracks on platform 2. It's Sunday in the capital city, and services are running smoothly. All of a sudden the unexpected happens. The rear end of the 11.57 service to Penzance derails as it is departing the station, and tilts heavily towards platform 2. Nobody is hurt thanks to the quick thinking of the dispatcher and the driver who brings the train to a halt, but the 400 tonne train is now firmly stuck inside the station. Platforms 1 and 2 - used by over 20,000 passengers every day - are now out of action, and Rail Incident Officer, Bradley arrives on the scene to makes his assessment of what caused the derailment. With monday morning just a matter of hours away, the pressure is on the team to re-rail the train and re-open the platforms.Further along the Western network, British Transport Police officers at Bristol have had reports that a man onboard a train is carrying a knife. The train he is on, which is destined for Wales, cannot leave the station until he is investigated. Officers board the train and identify him, but the man is unwilling to disembark the train. The police must resolve the situation before the man's actions hold up the service and cause delays down the line.
