This temple is one of most visited place in Dehradun. At the temple, Sanatala Devi is praised along with her brother. It is believed that on realization that they would not be able to fight with Mughal Army, Santala Devi and her brother decided to abandoned their weapons and pray to God. As they were praying, a sudden light flickered and they turn into stones idols. After the incident a shrine was built in the fort itself. It was the day of Saturday (Shaniwaar) when they turns into stones images. Hundreds of devotees visit Santala Devi Temple to take the blessings of the Goddess Santala Devi and her brother.
