He urged the establishment of a National Economic Council to forecast and mitigate future crises, complementing the role of the National Security Council. On Sri Lanka’s strategic role in the region, Prof. Gunaratne stressed the importance of understanding global power dynamics, enhancing international intelligence cooperation, and building trust with local communities, particularly the peaceful Muslim community, to prevent extremism.
