In this video we discuss the Eco Friendly Vegan Leather and Thermocol from Flowers (Fleather & Florafoam) that are made by Phool. Every year millions of temple flowers are thrown in the holy Ganges 🌸 Phool saw this as an opportunity! Recycling the flower waste, it started manufacturing Aggarbattis that are now sold across India. What does Phool do? Using its ‘flowercycling' technology’, Phool makes products made from temple flowers. It started with making agarbattis and organic Holi colours, and is working on other such sustainable products. Phool’s immense scale Launched commercially in September 2018, Phool has composted around 18,000 metric tonnes of flower waste to date. Every day, it takes around 10 metric tonnes of flower waste from temples in Kanpur and Varanasi. What’s next for Phool? Phool has a dedicated R&D center that’s researching other products that can be created from waste. It aims to become India’s first Biomimicry research company. What is Biomimicry? Biomimicry is the study of strategies used by nature and living species, and how we can mimic them for creating sustainable products. Make way for Fleather Standing for flower-based leather, Fleather aims to replace not just leather but even vegan leather (made from petroleum jelly). The inspiration came to the team when they saw "dense, fibrous, mat" growing on a pile of unused flower fibers. Florafoam – an organic alternative to Thermocol Florafoam is an organic and biodegradable Thermocol alternative that’s highly mouldable and durable. It's also cheaper and customisable to any shape, size, and strength depending upon the usability. Listen to the inspirational journey of Ankit Agarwal about Phool’s inception and how he scaled it up. #phool #recycle #recyclingideas
