Explore the high-adrenaline world of police dogs in a behind-the-scenes look at the Met Police’s Dog Support Unit. These highly-skilled police dogs and their handlers provide 24/7 support across London, specialising in tasks such as searching for drugs, explosives, money, and even human remains. Each police dog undergoes a rigorous 12 to 14-month training programme, where they live with and are cared for by their police dog handlers. Better known as K9 units around the world, police dog teams are instrumental in the success of an investigation, helping to locate evidence, track suspects and assist in critical pursuits. Several different breeds are used by the Met – follow German Shepherd police dog Freya and spaniel Frank on a typical response shift in South East London. Watch how they work with their handler to keep communities safer. Thanks to BlueLightBlits and Surrey999 for their footage of our Police vehicles.
