Using the Autel AP200 Automotive Scan Tool, I changed my 6 ½ year old OEM Varta AGM Battery in my 2015 Porsche Macan S with a more readily available Interstate MTX-49H8 which is identical in dimensions and slightly higher specifications at 95 Ah vs. 92 Ah, and 900 CCA vs 850 CCA. Exchanging the battery is quite easy, the battery being located in the rear cargo area under the spare tire. If so equipped, the subwoofer must also be removed to access the battery. Note: A 12 V source may be connected to the under-hood terminals to maintain voltage to the electrical system during battery change-over, but this is optional. If not done, the rear hatch stops may need to be re-trained and power window stops may require this as well. Disconnect the vent tube located at the side of the battery. Using a 13mm socket, remove the bolt holding the battery tie-down strap and place the strap out of the way. Using a 10mm socket or wrench, loosen (Do not remove!) the negative battery terminal clamp and place to the side. You may then remove the positive terminal, being careful to not touch the wrench nor the terminal clamp on any grounded surface, especially if you have connected the 12 V source under the hood. Slide the battery forward slightly from under the battery hold-down rails and remove the battery. Note: My Interstate battery has a small plug for the vent hole attached to the positive terminal cover (shown in red). Remove this plug and press into the vent hole on the appropriate side of the battery. I liked the black hinged cover on the OEM battery, so replaced the red cover on the Interstate MTX-49H8. Reverse this procedure to re-install the new battery ensuring that the last clamp installed will be to the negative terminal and re-install the vent tube. Before tightening the hold-down strap, you may need to shift the battery position slightly to ensure that the bottom rear flanges of the battery seat properly on the hold-down rails. It should not move nor rock from side-to-side. If not seated properly, the clamp of the battery hold-down strap may not line up to allow bolt re-insertion. If attached, you may then remove the 12 V supply from the under-hood terminals. At this point, the new battery must be registered to your vehicle using a scanner that has this function. If not done, the vehicle will continue to charge the newly installed battery as if it were the old one which may reduce the life of the new battery significantly due to over-charge. If you do not have access to the appropriate scanner, you may have this done at an approved Porsche service center or independent garage, but are advised to do so as soon as can be arranged. There is some debate regarding how soon this should be done, however one “expert” source suggested in some cases, not doing so can reduce the life of the new battery by up to half! Per the video, I used my Autel scanner to easily register the battery to the vehicle. Data that I entered: Battery Capacity: 95 Battery Technology: AGM Serial Number: 6-56489-34751-0 Porsche Part Number: 95861109521 Side note: My Serial Number was derived from the UPC code on the new battery. Porsche Part number for the OEM 92 Ah battery is 958-611-092-21 Porsche Part number for the optional 105 Ah battery is 958-611-105-21 So by logical extension, I entered 95861109521 for my 95 Ah battery, however 011.111.111 has been used by others with success.
