The cozy restaurants, pubs, and shops are even more beautiful in the Christmas lights. From this street, you can explore the city's sights by horse-drawn carriage or, in winter, if there is enough snow, by horse-drawn sleigh. This popular winter destination is famous for its unique architecture. The houses of Zakopane offer a unique visual experience, presenting a perfect blend of landscape and culture. Almost all the older and many new buildings are built of thick, carved pine beams. This warm, natural material creates unity with the surrounding Tatra mountains. The houses of Zakopane are a harmonious blend of mountain romance, sentimental decoration and functional folk architecture, almost inseparable from the Tatra landscape. The market is the center of local Goral (mountain) culture and crafts. Oscypek is a traditional smoked cheese made from sheep's milk with a special shape. It is worth trying different versions of Oscypek (small, large, fresh, smoked, grilled) and unsmoked soft cheese called Bundz, similar to mozzarella, at the vendors! There is a huge selection of wooden objects (carved walking sticks, boxes, kitchen utensils) and leather goods (waistbands, hats, lined slippers and fur coats). Wool products (socks, scarves, gloves) and accessories in the local Goral style are also available. Polish specialties: Dried and pickled mushrooms, local jams, mead are also available Gubałówka is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Zakopane, mainly because of the magnificent Tatra panorama that opens up to the city and the mountains from above. The fastest and most convenient way to reach the mountain is by funicular. It is extremely fast, covering the 300-meter difference in altitude in about 3.5 minutes. The lower station is located at the end of the Zakopane Market. It is worth buying tickets in advance, as this way you can avoid queuing. During the Advent and Christmas periods, Gubałówka takes on a special, festive atmosphere. The mountainside and the summit are bathed in light, and illuminated light sculptures depicting animals (e.g. foxes, polar bears, deer) enhance the Christmas atmosphere, which are especially spectacular after dark. If the weather permits (no heavy fog or snowfall), you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Tatra peaks, all the way to the Kasprovy peak of the High Tatras. Restaurants, bazaars, horse-drawn sleighs and horse-drawn carriages await visitors. Winter sports enthusiasts can also enjoy ski lifts and a snow park. A 1-2-hour horse-drawn sleigh ride in the snowy mountains can be a real Christmas experience.
