I worked right near here in Seattle, either the next building down the block or just behind Campbell Scott's parking place. Note the early screen appearance of Paul Giamatti. The Pike Place Market Clinic, visible in the daylight basement below the Virginia Inn, was a hangout for a bit as well. Their Social Worker, the Catholic Joe Martin, was also the Democratic establishment man sponsoring the radical housing activists. Meetings were at this space. Although I had a radical campus pedigree, at the time I was managing a private apartment building very near, and like, the building featured in this movie, we parted ways. That apartment job, with a great owner and boss, gave me the time to attend public meetings while I slowly finished off my degree. Most significant were the organizing meetings for what would become the three county Sound Transit light rail project. I was a big supporter of the Downtown to University of Washington light rail link from conception to funding. I, along with the Executive Director, and several of the best appointed elected Board Members all got purged. Perpetrators included prominently Microsoft's Law firm, Papa Gates, long time public bond counsel folks. Written and Directed by Cameron Crowe, starring Bridget Fonda, Matt Dillon, Campbell Scott, and Kyra Sedgwick. Pearl Jam is also featured, as are a number of other grunge era Seattle bands.
