In 64 A.D. a devastating fire destroys Rome. Emperor Nero himself is said to have set the fire and, enraptured by the sight of the flames, recited his ballad of the burning of Troy. However this claim is diputed by many historians,who point out that there is no solid evidence to support it. Some historians belive the fire was an accident, while others think it may have been set by Nero´s enemies to descredit him. Regardless of the cause, the fire was a major disaster that had a lasting impact on the city an its people.
