Interview with Fran Garcia, a researcher who works on Work Package #3 of the H2020 project Novaterra: Development of a ready-to-use smart farming platform for crop protection management. Fran Garcia is associate professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and belongs to the research Unit in Agriculture Mechanisation (UMA). WP3 focuses on exploiting the possibilities of digital technologies to optimize the use of pesticides in vineyard and olive groves and to promote adoption of new technologies in the agrifood sector. Taking advantage of data generated from ground and satellite spectral sensors, an advanced and user friendly methodology has been developed to improve efficacy and efficiency within the crop protection process, increasing sustainability, reducing environmental risk and enlarging the economical revenues for farmers.
