On the sixth day of my JR Pass adventure I did not have a very long train journey so I had time to do some sightseeing in Hiroshima. It's a great city, very walkable and there is a lot to see. The JR Pass is a rail pass with costs about C$500 and gives you almost unlimited rail travel for 7 days. I began in Aomori at the northern tip of Honshu and ended in Kagoshima which is the southern tip of Kyushu. My aim was to ride as much of the Shinkansen network as possible and to see a few cities along the way. I managed to ride the entire Shinkansen network with the exception of three short areas: Between Hakodate in Hokkaido and Aomori I preferred to take a ferry Between Yamagata and Shinjo - I just didn't have time The short stretch between Omiya and Tokyo I was on the train for several hours each day but had chances for sightseeing early each morning, at any stops I made and in the evening once I arrived where I was going.
