In this video, I take you through the essential foundational training every young horse needs to set them up for success under saddle. Meet Grayson, my 3.5-year-old colt, who is still in the early stages of his training—this is around ride number 10-14. Some of the key foundations I cover in this session include: ✅ Standing still at the mounting block ✅ Walking, trotting, and cantering on a loose rein ✅ Developing softness in transitions ✅ Steering with the rein influencing the shoulders ✅ Teaching rhythm and relaxation These basics are crucial for any horse, whether they are freshly started, an off-the-track Thoroughbred, or a horse that has developed bad habits. If your horse struggles with these, it’s time to go back and build that foundation before moving forward.
