(21 Oct 2018) The battle for the key Yemeni port city of Hodeida continued on Sunday between Yemeni fighters loyal to Yemen's exiled government and Houthi rebels. The Saudi-led coalition has recently launched several airstrikes against Houthi positions in Hodeida to help pro-government fighters advance. Tens-of-thousands of residents have fled the fighting along Yemen's western coastline where Yemeni fighters, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, are engaged in fierce battles with Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. Yemen has been locked in a ruinous war pitting the Saudi-led coalition backing the government of Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi against the Houthis since March 2015. Saudi-led airstrikes have hit schools, hospitals and wedding parties and killed thousands of Yemeni civilians. The Houthis have fired long-range missiles into Saudi Arabia and targeted vessels in the Red Sea. At least 10,000 people have been killed in Yemen's conflict, which has exacerbated what the UN calls the 'world's worst humanitarian crisis'.
