This quirky and rare 1980s word processor/computer system even appeared in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only! 🕶️✨ After an email tip-off and a road trip to the Home Computer Museum, I brought home this beauty—my first-ever solo pickup since passing my driving test! 🚗 The P5000 turned out to be a treasure trove of surprises, from unusual 5.25" floppy drives to mysterious PCB boards with unexpected designs. It’s part computer, part puzzle, and a retro lover’s dream. In this video, I: ✅ Explore the P5000’s unique hardware, including its hedgehog-like PCB. ✅ Discuss fascinating discoveries, like Philips-branded floppy drives and a hidden handheld control panel. ✅ Speculate on the functions of its quirky components. ✅ Highlight the challenges of restoring this one-of-a-kind system, including cut cables and rare Intel ROMs. 📀 Bonus: I also found some vintage floppy disks inside the drives—stay tuned as I work to digitize these treasures! This marks my final video of 2024, a year where this channel crossed 1,000 subscribers! 🎉 Thank you to everyone who watches, comments, and supports my little corner of retro computing. I hope you enjoy this detailed look at the Philips P5000 and stick around for more adventures in 2025. 💾 Check out the special P5000 page on my website for more details: https://www.retromels.com/p5000.html If you’ve got insights into this system—or tips for dumping Intel I3636 ROMs—please drop a comment below.
