Three reshots...I had to do three reshots for this video *facepalm*. This time it's not a true one take video, but a "What you see is what you hear" video. I was only able to film with one camera and this is another approach to multi-cam videos that I like more than miming to a pre-recorded audio. Tell me in the comments if you like it or if you want to watch strict one take videos! (I do have 2 cameras, so it's still possible with 2 camera angles) So, how did I do it this time? Before I got another camera this was one of my first thoughts on how to do multi-cam videos. With each camera angle I recorded a one take playthrough and after cutting the video I just synced each shot with the respective audio. It was a bit tedious, but this way you hear what is really played in every shot. Everything's real! It has one huge advantage which I noticed: I don't have to focus that hard on playing almost perfect. I still tried to and recording those 5 takes took some time too. But it's not as stressful as my usual videos. With this approach I could do a video a week I think or at least every two weeks. Preparation is not as tough and most of the time went into editing the video. Took me 4 days haha. I switched to DaVinci Resolve and took my time to get used to it and tried out different transitions and stuff. The next video probably won't have as much cuts as this one. Setting up was also way easier. With two cameras it's kinda hard to sit really still to get the best footage from both. That's another advantage. And why did I do it like this? Well, as you read, it took me 3 reshots. The first time I recorded it again because I wasn't satisfied with my playing. That was still with 2 cameras and one take. Phil Tougas solos are really tough. There's one specific alternate picking run with fast sweeps at 240ish bpm 16th notes. Took me some time to get it tight, and on the first video it was not how I wanted it to be. So I did the reshot. On the next one I had issues with noise on the footage. I have two different lenses and one of them is not as good in low-light situations. Noticed the noise only after shooting. And then on the third reshot I broke the lightbulb of my softbox and had to film with room lighting only. Could only shoot with one lense then. That's when I tried just doing multiple playthroughs mixed to one. Yeah, that playthrough was cursed or something. Another story: I've known Nick Padovani, the guitarist and composer of this band, for a while now. Only through Internet though. From the early days of my youtube channel. And then I met Sanjay, the other guitar player, and Stevie, the singer on their last tour with Inferi (those two guys did/do play in that band too!) Had a fun time with them. Really nice guys. Looking forwards to the next time. Aaaand I even played with their drummer, Chason Westmoreland, on my last show where I filled in for The HAARP Machine. He played the drums on that show and we had a nice time hanging out at the festival. Great guy! So yeah, we know each other and this is a totally friendly cover of one of their songs. Nick was nice enough to send me a tab since I requested one. I only had to transcribe the solos of the record. They were still different in the tab. Enjoy the video! :) (Next video either Necrophagist, Cryptopsy, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, Cynic or something else)
