In the dance school, the biggest cost is renting the studio, which stays the same whether there’s one student or thousands. That kind of fixed cost also makes the business scalable, since growth doesn’t lead to huge added expenses. For Candice’s slow-cooked barbecue meats business, Evan explains that it’s less scalable because every sale requires buying more meat. It’s a physical product with ongoing variable costs. While that makes it harder to scale, Evan encourages entrepreneurs by reminding them that even low-scalability businesses can still be very successful.
