Monarchy vs Republic: Is the Queen above the law? | Attic Philosophy

In the UK, we still have a monarchy, with the Queen as our official but unelected head of state. How does this affect us as a democracy? In this video, I focus on one aspect of our political system which I think deeply damages our democratic values: the Queen, as head of state, is above the law that applies to the rest of us. It recently emerged that the Queen regularly uses a little known procedure, "Queen's Consent", to suggest legal amendments. Often, these make her and the Royal Family exempt from new legislation. In this video, I explain how this works and talk through some of the most important examples.
