This time I’m working on a 1971 Honda CB350 Scrambler—a partly built bike that I’ve just picked up and will be turning into something unique. The Honda CB350 Scrambler (also known as the CL350 in some markets) is one of the most iconic small-displacement motorcycles from the 1970s. With its lightweight chassis, reliable parallel-twin engine, and versatile scrambler styling, it’s a perfect base for a café racer or custom project. This particular bike has already had some work done on it, but it’s far from finished—so I’ll be picking up where the last builder left off and making it my own. What’s in this video: In this episode, I introduce the bike, talk about what’s already been done, and share my plans for the project. Since it’s a partly built CB350 Scrambler, I’ll need to figure out what stays, what goes, and what needs a total rebuild. Think of this as the “before” stage—the starting line of a full café racer transformation. Why the Honda CB350 Scrambler? The CB/CL350 platform is legendary in the custom motorcycle world. It’s light, simple, and has one of the most loved parallel-twin engines of the era. Parts are still available, there’s a huge community of builders out there, and the bike strikes the perfect balance between vintage charm and modern rideability when customized. A 1971 CB350 Scrambler makes an especially fun café racer project because: It already has a higher exhaust scrambler look to play with. It’s easy to strip down and clean up for that lean café racer stance. The engine is reliable but also fun to tune. It’s a vintage classic that still feels approachable for home garage builds. My Plans for the Build: This is going to be a blend of café racer and scrambler styling—something that keeps the vintage soul of the Honda but gives it a sharper, custom edge. The bike has already had some work done, but I’ll be rethinking a lot of it, adding new parts, and fabricating a few of my own touches along the way. Expect updates on: Stripping down the bike and assessing what’s usable. Cleaning and rebuilding the parallel-twin engine. Modifying the frame for a sleeker café racer profile. Custom seat and rear frame loop. Wheels, tires, and brakes suited to both style and performance. Rewiring with a simplified harness an M-Unit Paintwork, polishing, and all the finishing details that make a custom bike stand out. Why This Project Is Different: Unlike a ground-up barn find, this CB350 Scrambler is partly built already. That means I’ll be doing a lot of “reworking”—deciding what’s worth keeping, what needs changing, and what doesn’t quite fit the vision. Sometimes starting with someone else’s project is harder than starting fresh, but it also gives me a unique challenge.
