The Kamenskaya Tragedy - 1987

Our goal is always to keep the story clear without compromising the accuracy of the facts. At dawn on August 6, 1987, two trains departed from Likhaya Station in the south of the Soviet Union. The first carried dozens of passengers bound for Moscow. The second hauled thousands of tons of freight. Both ran on the same line—a route known for long descents and treacherous curves. The gap between them was just seven minutes. Shortly before reaching the next station, the train with over 55 tons realized it had no brakes—and what followed became one of the biggest disasters in Russian railway history.
