2019 International Medis Awards Finalists | Pulmonology and Allergology

Prof. Dragana Jovanović, MD, PhD, from the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases of the Clinical Center of Serbia, has proven that the signalling pathway of lung carcinoma, for which an immunotherapy already exists, is the same as for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Her discovery means that the established treatment of lung carcinoma could be used as a part of therapeutical approach when treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis as well. - How in patients with COPD discover the early forms of arteriosclerosis and thus potentially spare them the most frequent cardiovascular diseases, was established by pulmonologist Renáta Marietta Böcskei, MD, MSc, from the Szent Borbála Hospital in Tatabánya. - Thanks to the findings of Tanja Soklič Košak, MD, MSc, from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, and her colleagues immunologists from the University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik, patients with severe chronic sinusitis and persistent symptoms will be given adjusted treatment in the future. Her research of subtypes of T lymphocytes in the mucosa of the patients is especially important for establishing various immunological causes of severe sinusitis.
