The three founding members (Thomas Brück on bass and vocals, Horst Schöttgen on drums, and Gerald Dellmann on keyboards) had been in several other bands in the Cologne/Bonn area since the late 1960s, until they decided to form a new band that would focus on art rock/proto-prog. In November 1972, they added multi-instrumentalist Dieter Roesberg (guitars, saxophone, flute). They started out as a primarily instrumental band, playing long pieces with keyboards, flute, and grandiose orchestrations. Their first album, Desert Places, was actually recorded in 1973 but released a year later, in 1974. The album was essentially recorded live in the studio, and their popularity peaked when they supported Barclay James Harvest on their European tour in 1974. They were significantly influenced by them, to the point that they slightly changed their musical style. As a result, they released a double live album, "Whalecome", and the same year, "As a Keepsake". In 1978, they released "A Whale of a Time", and in 1979, they composed the soundtrack for the film "Die Faust en Der Tasche" and released the compilation album, "On Tour". In 1981, they released the album "Don't Stop The Show" with a very different line-up led by Thomas Brück (and the addition of English singer Barry Palmer, formerly of Triumvirat, with whom he recorded "Old Loves Die Hard" and "Pompeii"). The band disbanded that same year. Unfortunately, nothing lived up to the standard they set on their only true classic album, their 1974 debut, which is considered by their fans to be their finest work.
