Detroit-based guitarist Val Ventro takes you through the tuning options (and their respective recommended string gauges) we at G-Sharp Guitars recommend using with your G-Sharp OF-1 electric travel guitar. While the G-Sharp OF-1 was originally designed to be tuned to and played in g# with .10 gauge strings, it can be tuned in a variety of ways, including the "standard" tuning options shown in this video. However, when changing tuning, it's typically a good idea to change string gauges. Too low tuning with .10 gauge strings and the action will be sloppy and loose. Too high tuning, it will be too tight and you'll break strings. Of course, strings vary between brands and we recommend using the brand of strings that you prefer. Please note that, when using thicker strings for lower tunings, modifications (opening up string holder holes with a drill, sanding string slots wider, etc.) to the string holder, floating bridge, and nut may need to be made so that the ball end of the thicker strings (specifically the wound strings) sits snug on the string holder. It should also be noted that if the above modifications are done, the string holder, bridge, and nut may not work perfectly if you try to go back to thinner strings. For example, if you sand string slots on the bridge to fit .13 gauge strings, if you later put .09 gauge strings on the new, thin strings won't sit snugly into the slot and will roll around as the guitar is being played.
