Join healer, ethnoherbalist, and educator Meda DeWitt on a foraging adventure in Anchorage, Alaska, as she harvests Fireweed Shoots. Meda shares the medicinal and culinary uses of this vibrant plant, along with best foraging practices. Fireweed is a versatile and nutrient-rich wild edible you won’t want to miss! Meda has an associates degrees in science and human services; a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies: women’s rites of passage; a master’s degree of arts in Alaska Native traditional healing from the Alaska Pacific University; and is currently in an Indigenous studies doctoral program at Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi, New Zealand. This video was created as part of the USDA Indigenous Food Sovereignty Initiative, in collaboration with NĀTIFS, to support Indigenous-led education on responsible foraging and food sovereignty.
