Getting around the Jyväskylä city centre on skis requires a bit of adventure and knowledge of the local ski tracks. In the video, I have photographed the sights along the route and given some tips on how to get there. The route starts from Tuomiojärvi which can be reached from Wilhelm Schildtn katu. From Tuomiojärvi, you need to know how to leave Haukkala along a steep climb towards Laajavuori. There are no signs here. The first café is in Laajavuori. From Laajavuori onwards, there should be enough signs to find the route towards Ladun maja or Kotalampi. My route takes a shortcut, meaning you can also get there via the Killer parking lot if you feel like walking a little. Buugi is on both the shortcut and the main route and acts as a trail café if necessary. After Köhniö you have to walk. Cross the rail track and from there continue along the pedestrian route. After the underpass, you can reach the Kotalampi ski trail. There is also a small shop in Kotalampi. From Kotalampi, there is a clear and steep route to Ladun maja, where you can refuel at the ski cafe. From Ladun maja, you can ski downhill to Keljonkangas, from where you can continue your adventure skiing along the trails and even walk a little until you reach the Keljonkangas ski trail network. In the past, the most demanding climb in the Jyväskylä ski trail network went up from Keljonlahti to the Keljonkangas ski trail network. The construction of the power plant cut off this route, but you can still get onto the ice by following the power plant fence. The Keljonlahti power plant has not weakened the ice, so you can safely ski from Keljonlahti to Nenäinniemi. If in doubt, you can view the weekly measurement results here: https://alva.maps.arcgis.com/apps/das... A safe ski trail runs from Nenäinniemi almost to the Hämeenlahti birdwatching tower. From the Nenäinniemi shore, you should not stray too far east to the vicinity of Lehtissaari, because there is always weak ice there. From the birdwatching tower, you can get through the reeds and along the shore, following snowmobile tracks, to Samulinniemi. However, the easternmost tip of Samulinniemi must be bypassed by land, because there is weak ice right there and around Tiirinsaari and Saukonsaari. Right there, near Tiirinsaari, a cyclist had sunk into the ice. From the northern tip of Samulinniemi, you can move along safe ice to the Väinölä side and towards Jyskänvuori. In the past, the official city ski track ran from here past Samulinniemi to Nenäinniemi. You can get to Sammallahti via Haapalahti, and from Sammallahti you can ski and walk along the road and the light traffic route from Hutunki to the center of Vaajakoski and the sports field, where you can get back to the ski track network. You can get additional food at Vaajakoski if you take a couple of hundred meters off the route to the shops or the Panda factory store. If you follow the Vaajakoski ski track network, you can then go all the way to Kangaslampi. Here you have to carry your skis under the road and then ski the track that goes around Kangaslampi, along which a steep connecting ski track rises towards the Ampujien maja. There is a cafe in Ampujien maja. From Ampujien maja, you leave in the direction of Palokka, but choose the route that goes through Tyyppälänjärvi. The signs are not exactly the best, so you have to be careful not to ski past the Tyyppälänjärvi intersection. Getting to Palokkajärvi is a bit tricky, because there are no signs. After the track ends, you have to go under the road and immediately after the underpass, along the path and between two rather large yard areas all the way to the shore of Palokkajärvi to Tyyppälänlahti. You can cross Palokkajärvi on a ski track. There are no signs next to the motorway, but a piece of the railing of the light traffic route has been removed at a point where you can get to the Tuomiojärvi side with a small walk. This route is over 50 km long. If you are going on the same trip, it is worth checking out the track on map, especially for the safe route near Samulinniemi. You can zoom in on the track in more detail here: https://hazor.iki.fi/gpx/?url=https:/... and you can download the gpx-track here: https://hazor.iki.fi/gpx/2025/jkl-ymp...
