When we were staying in Coimbra we went to visit one of the charming shale rock villages in the Lousã hill. This is one of the largest and more developed ones, but probably one of the most famous is Piodão. It is less than an hour drive from Coimbra and worth a visit, also has a restaurant at the entrance in case you are thinking of having lunch there. After Talasnal we went to see the small Lousã Castle and it's surroundings, there is also a very good restaurant here but it is small, so you need to book in advance.
